It was a cool Saturday night and I was on a mission, to take some photos of the supermoon in Seattle. The moon is closest to Earth than it ever has been the last 18 years, so it’s supposed to be larger and brighter on 3/19/11. I started out at the Dr. Jose Rizal Bridge in Seattle. Here is a shot of the downtown skyline. I’d imagine that there are tons of photos just like this =), since I’m always running into other photographers down there.
Unfortunately the moon rose the opposite side that I had hoped for. I was first to spot it on the horizon to the east. Too bad I didn’t bring a long enough lens. I wasn’t the only one, 3 others also pointed there cameras to the moon, but they all seemed to have short lenses. The longest lens I had with me was 85mm and it really didn’t do the moon justice. Not discouraged I decided I would find a nice area to make use of the lenses I did bring (14-24mm 2.8, 85mm 1.4). I wanted to find a shot with some city lights, the moon, and some water! I like the shot I ended up with, it has all the ingredients I was looking for and I was the only one in this spot. Mission Accomplished! – Charles
