The Canon 7d to be released at the end of September!

Canon fans can rejoice, Canon will be releasing a new camera this fall (End of September), the 7D. The numbering system is strange, as this camera would have made more sense as the 60d because it seems more like a successor to the 50d.

It seems to have addressed many things I didn’t really like about Canon cameras. There seems to be much more dedicated buttons now for easier changing of settings on the fly vs digging through menus.

Looks as though it will have a very impressive shot rate, 8fps! That’s very fast for its class of camera. Another thing they added, which Nikon users already enjoy is that the pop up flash now acts as a remote flash commander.

Now remote flashes can be triggered by the popup flash! No need to buy any separate accessories.

It looks to be  well built and actually heavier than its full frame brother, the 5D Mark II. Like the D300s that was released not to long ago, the Canon 7d also has two slots for an SD and a CF card. I would love this feature. Not sure yet if you can save to both simultaneously, but I’d imagine they wouldn’t leave this out. For us wedding photographers, this would be invaluable, it would be a nice safety net incase something goes wrong with one of the cards

One thing I don’t understand, is, why they upped the megapixels again. It now offers 18 megapixels. They claim to have improved its light sensitivity. I’m a little wary of this as it sounds more like a marketing tool to me. All the extra megapixels do is clogg your hardrive,  limits the amount of photos you can actually take and increase noise at the higher ISOs. I’d prefer a camera with less pixels, that are more light sensitive. There seems to be a consensus that the 50d was a step back in to the 40d in this regard. Guess they figure people see the bigger numbers and assume it’s better.

Here’s a great in depth review, much better than mine =).
